From chartering the first publicly funded University to reaching
out and providing a primary education, when not many other states
in the South would, North Carolina has always been an educational
leader.
K-12
Senator Snow recognizes that the people who put Neil Armstrong on
the moon were taught in small intimate settings where they could
ask many questions and have plenty of time with their teacher while
learning the curriculum. He believes that even today this fundamental
teaching premise holds true - the smaller the teacher to student
ratio the better the learning experience.
Community Colleges
Senator Snow understands that the future of North Carolina’s
economy is vested in the students of the Community Colleges across
the state. They are receiving the training that will allow hi-tech
manufacturing centers to operate and fill the void that was left
by textile mills. It is important that the State make the necessary
investments to ensure that these students have the tools they need
to be successful and the financing available to attend college.
Universities
North Carolina’s University System is often cited as the crown
jewel of the State given its ability to help the State overcome economic
hard times and to spur on new types of industries through its cutting
edge research. The University System is something that all North
Carolinians can be proud of. Senator Snow remains mindful that the
promise of a college degree is not assured for all North Carolinians.
Access and affordability must remain at the forefront of everything
that we do in North Carolina with regard to our University system.
