Of the various things that the education lottery funds one portion of it is school growth. For the last year school growth construction funding has been determined by a formula which helps out counties that can and will increase their property taxes. However, this same formula hurts counties which have low property taxes and high growth in their schools. Most of our Western Counties have this condition. On Tuesday July 10, 2007 at 8:30 in the morning a bill which I have been working on for the last year will be heard in the House Finance Committee. This bill presents a formula for more fairly distributing school construction funds - it puts a premium on growth and not on other conditions of the county.
